I have decided to do my short film on an overachieving student who gives in to peer pressure, eventually becoming addicted to the use of drugs. The reason I have chosen for my short film to cover this issue is that it will be more easy to film when attempting to express an issue like this, as stereo-typically, young people are more likely to take drugs and be pressured into doing so, therefore this will also create a larger awareness of how some teenagers get addicted to drugs and the type of impact it can have on every aspect of their lives.
This idea is more likely to be successful when filming as it will be easier to acquire many young actors who can play students in a school environment, therefore making my short film seem more realistic as I will have a range of potential actors and I will not be limited on my choice. I can also use some alternatives for the drugs that are going to be included in my short film, so I will not experience difficulties when filming scenes of drug use.
Compared to my other short film ideas, such as alcohol addiction and teenage pregnancy, it is less likely that I could create a short film on these issues as it would be difficult to portray that kind of story without having a baby to play the role as well as finding an adult male who can confidently play the role of an alcoholic. Also, the lack of realistic props such as a positive pregnancy test and alcohol also cancels out this idea whereas in the drug theme it will be much easier for me to find a substitute that can replace the actual drugs when filming.

Pros and Cons of Short Film Ideas
Potential ideas/themes for my short film
Teenage Pregnancy
A possible theme and issue that my short film could be about a teenage mother who falls pregnant again. The pros of this would be that it explores the different issues some teenagers go through. Another pro would be that it would be easier for me to acquire young female actors.
However, the cons could be that it would be difficult to find appropriate child and baby actors which without them, it would be less likely that the audience will understand how much of a negative situation the teenager could be in.
The same pros and cons can apply to another similar idea of mine, which would be about a wealthy businessman getting a teenager pregnant. Although the idea is different, it is difficult to find adult male actors who would be willing to play the role, as well as the difficulty of finding child and baby actors.
Drug Abuse
Another theme my short film could address can be about a boy, who is homosexual, becomes bullied for his sexuality. This later leads to him having severe depression which results in to him continuously taking drugs. A pro of this idea is that it would be raising awareness as well as my short film being unique as it is not always that the impact of homophobic bullying is shown.
Another possible issue my short film could portray is an over-achiever who is peer pressured into fitting in with other kids at school, who induce him into the consumption of drugs. Eventually, this begins to affect the boy academically as well as personally at school with severe consequences. The pros of both of these issues could be the ease of access and convenience to young actors, as well as them being required to do only child-like actions, whereas the use of drugs is the only con to this idea. The type of drug and what type of substitute to use whilst filming can be an issue.

Another potential theme my short film could cover is alcohol abuse. This could either be about a father who begins to struggle with alcohol addiction, which eventually leads to him not being able to see his children, or alcohol abuse in relationships. This would be about a couple who live together, where one of them becomes addicted to alcohol which then starts to affect the relationship.
The pros of this theme would be that it only requires a minimal amount of actors, as well as it being easier to find younger actors. However, it will be more difficult to find adult actors let alone actors who will be willing to play an alcoholic.
